Help & guide

A quick reference for how HoopDrills fits together. New here? The welcome tour covers the basics in under a minute.

Drills, workouts & packs

HoopDrills has three kinds of content, and they're browsable separately:

  • Drills — a single clipped move or exercise, tagged by category, age group, skill level and (for opposed drills) matchup like 3v2.
  • Workouts— stretching, warm-ups, conditioning, or a whole basketball-skills video session, tagged separately from drills since they're not the same kind of thing.
  • Packs — a coach-curated bundle of drills, free or paid, that you buy (or claim for free) once and keep access to for good.

Both Drills and Workouts can be filtered by category, age group, skill level, and more from the sidebar.

Saving & points

Saving a drill or workout is free.It used to cost a few points, but while the library is still getting started we'd rather you kept everything worth keeping.

Every account still starts with 200points — an in-app currency that's never convertible to real money — and you earn more by reviewing, so there's a balance building up for when saving is priced again.

Rating something you've saved — across all four categories below — pays 10 points back, once per item. You have to have the item open for at least 20seconds first, so points can't be farmed by clicking through a list without reading anything. Adding a new drill of your own also earns a one-time 20-point reward.

Rating

Ratings are broken into four categories rather than one overall star, so a low score is actionable:

  • Player improvement — Does it actually develop the skill?
  • Fun / engagement — Do players enjoy it and stay bought in?
  • Ease of setup — Space, equipment and time to get going.
  • Clarity — How clearly is it explained here?

The overall star rating shown on cards is just the average of those four.

Building a training session

From your Dashboard, start a new session to pick drills and workouts, put them in order, and schedule a date and time. Filter the picker by type (drill or workout), whether you've saved or created it, and the usual category/age/level/equipment tags. Click any card to read its full description without losing your place — a live breakdown shows what share of the session is going to each category, and what equipment the selected workouts need.

Teams

Add a team from the dashboard to give it its own calendar, a category breakdown of everything you've trained with them, and an optional linked Google Sheet or Excel file for player stats.

Selling your own drills

Bundle drills you've added into a pack from My drills. Price it or give it away for free — you keep 85% of every paid sale, paid out via Stripe once you've connected an account.
